Cameron Crowe based the story for Fast Times at Ridgemont High on Clairemont High School in San Diego. Cameron Crowe went undercover as a student during the 1979-80 school year to do his research. Although I didn’t attend Clairemont High like my 5 older siblings, I grew up in Clairemont and although my parents sent me to University High School, the same Catholic high school Cameron Crow attended years before me, I can vouch for the authenticity of the characters and the culture portrayed in Fast Times, 100%.
